April April is a 16 year old 14.2 hand chocolate mare with a flax mane and tail. She is our best lesson and training horse, and very safe, especially for inexperienced riders. She loves children, and an ideal home for her would be one with a lovely barn and a little girl to love and fuss over her. She has been shown as a model (when younger) and more recently shown by children in Tennessee Walking Horse shows. She enjoys trail riding more than shows or ring work, and becomes much more animated on the trail. April needs a lot of love and attention, and it is important to us to find her a home where she can be happy and safe. |
Awes Awes is a gorgeous horse - her blue eyes and black and white markings are truly striking. She is equally beautiful in motion and is incredibly sensitive and responsive. At 15.3 hands, she has a solid build and is an extremely powerful horse. Awes is a one person horse and needs a kind, experienced rider who can earn her trust, but for that one person she will make an amazing partner. She is an incredible mother, and her baby (Zia--see below) is as striking as she is. Awes is triple registered as a Tennessee Walking Horse, Spotted Saddle Horse, and Racking Horse. |
Jewel Jewel is our second baby, and is a perfect platinum-blonde replica of her mother. She tried to eat hay an hour after birth and has been fiercely independent ever since. She has never been bothered by being alone, and we suspect that she will be the calmest, bravest trail horse the world has ever seen. She was a year old in November 2005 and, although her training began practically at birth, we will have to wait another year to see what she can really do.

Joe Joe is 15.2 hands and 3 years old. He is our sweet little gelding - the first baby we had on the farm. He was a bay like his mom at birth, but has almost finished turning grey like his daddy. Joe is just nice. He is sweet, gentle, and very curious. We're sure he tries to keep from pestering his buddies and harassing the chickens, but sometimes he just can't help it. The mares sometimes get annoyed with him and bite off his mane, but he is very handsome even with a partial mohawk and his gait is absolutely gorgeous under saddle. He is still kind of young to be a child's horse, but in a few years he will be perfect. Until then, he could do quite well at shows (assuming the mares let his mane grow out) and would make a great riding horse. Joe is a brave, talented, loving horse who deserves a really great home and an owner who will fall in love with him.

Kate Kate is a quick, athletic little bay mare that will require a similarly quick and athletic rider. She is responsive and eager to work and loves to go fast. She is our little sports car - small, fast, and very sensitive. Although Kate is not an appropriate horse for a beginner, she would make a great horse for someone willing to acquire the knowledge and experience required to properly handle her. She is a great barrel and pole prospect, and has been trained using natural horsemanship techniques. She has WGC on her papers. She is 14.2 hands and 5 years old. |

Lady Lady is a beautiful 5 year old 15.2 hand dapple gray mare. She is unusually graceful for a mare of her size, and is elegantly beautiful in motion. Lady is eager to work (she watches jealously as we work other horses in the roundpen) and would make a great show horse or trail horse for a wide range of riders. She is big enough to carry most men, but delicate looking enough tobe ridden by even the smallest woman. Lady is a Bud's Sterling Bullet daughter and has 6 world grand champions on her papers, so we expect great things of her and her babies.

Ruby Ruby is a 15 year old 15.2 hand sorrel mare with a flax mane and tail. She is big and solid with a comfortable gait and a gentle, willing disposition. She tends to be bossy with other horses, but she is always friendly and respectful towards people, especially children. Ruby is a safe, solid, consistent performer who would be suitable for even inexperienced riders in the show ring or on the trail. Her mother was a versatility champion, so we're pretty sure Ruby could do just about anything she put her mind to. We took her to her first show some years ago, and were pleasantly surprised by how relaxed she was and how much fun she had, even in such a new and scary environment. She brought home two blue ribbons on her very first try, and we couldn't be prouder!

Velvet Velvet is a 8 year old, 15.1 hand bay mare. She is one of our special horses, and loves to go on trail rides, even alone. She has been shown, but doesn't enjoy ring work as she is easily bored. We have been training her for trail obstacle classes so that the kids on the farm can show her, and we expect that to go over better than endlessly running in circles. She is one of those horses that is unflappable and will always keep you safe. When we lived on the Chesapeake, Paula (owner and trainer at Canterbury Farm) spent Hurricane Isabel in the barn aisle with her eating potato chips. Velvet was unimpressed. Velvet has had one baby (Joe) and was our first mother on the farm.

Zia Zia is Awes' daughter. She is 4 years old, 14.2 hands, and shares her mother's distinctive black and white markings. Zia's personality is uniquely her own - she is curious, silly, and fun loving. She has a great attitude under saddle and is a dream to work from the ground. Zia would be a suitable horse for a wide range of riders, from the very experienced to the relatively new rider. We have Zia pegged as our showstopper - she has the looks and the attention-loving personality to go with them. We have shown her once so far, and she has been trail ridden. She is double registered a as TWH and a spotted saddle horse.
